How to use Skill Cabinet
Skill Cabinet
Find agent skills, share them between tools, inspect usage, edit copies and use optional AI features.
Free to read. You can explore the guide before buying the app.
On this page
Skill Cabinet shows skills installed for your coding agents and which agents can load each one. It can share skills, edit their instructions and help you find duplicates or repeated requests.
Install and choose agents
After buying, connect your GitHub account in Polar and accept the invitation. Download the Mac app from the customer releases, unzip it, and move it to Applications. You need macOS 15 or later.
The app scans the skill folders and chat histories of the agents it finds. Open Settings to turn off an agent you do not want included. Turning it off stops its skills and chats from contributing to the view.
Press ⌘F to search by name or description. The list opens with your own skills. Use the toolbar filter to include plugin or built-in skills.
Share a skill with another agent
Suppose you wrote a skill named release-notes and want another agent to use it.
- Select
release-notesin the list. - Look at Available in to see which agents already load it.
- Click Add to beside the missing agent.
- Check the updated folder list.
For your own skills, sharing normally creates a symbolic link. Both agents then load the same files, so editing those files changes the skill for both. Plugin skills are copied instead because plugin updates replace their original folders.
Missing somewhere collects skills some agents cannot see. It helps when moving from one coding tool to another.
Edit, rename or remove
Choose Edit to change a skill’s SKILL.md. Copies with identical text receive the edit together; differing copies and plugin copies stay unchanged. If another process changed the file while you were editing, the app warns you before overwriting it.
Use Rename… for a new skill name rather than changing its frontmatter name in the editor. Renaming updates managed folders, links and the skill name. Usage from its previous name continues to count.
Uninstall moves your managed skill copies to the Trash. The confirmation explains which agents lose access. To remove a skill from one tool only, use Remove beside that folder. Removing a link leaves its target folder in place. Plugin and built-in skills are managed by their agents.
Read usage and similar skills
A use means a chat loaded or attached the skill. Several reads in one chat count once. The default lookback is 60 days; change it in Settings.
Open a skill to see usage by agent and project. Unused shows skills with no recorded use in the chosen period. An unused skill can still be useful; this view only describes the chat history the app could read.
Similar skills compares your skill text locally. Select a pair to inspect both. They’re different skills dismisses an unhelpful pairing.
Optional AI features
Explain with AI asks what a skill does. Find repeated tasks uses recent requests to propose skills. Draft the skill with AI prepares instructions you can edit before saving. Merge with AI drafts one skill from a similar pair and lets you review it before merging.
These features run your signed-in Codex or Claude Code CLI. Their prompts go to that provider under your account. Repeated-task analysis includes recent messages; merging includes both skill files. Review that choice before using the AI action on private material.
Use skillscout
Choose Skill Cabinet → Install Command Line Tool…. Then inspect skills without changing them:
skillscout list
skillscout show release-notes
skillscout usage
skillscout similar
skillscout help lists commands, including the ones that change or remove skills. skillscout capabilities provides task examples.
Skill files stay in their agents’ folders. Skill Cabinet’s cache, explanations and suggestions live in ~/Library/Application Support/Skillscout. Back up your actual skill folders as well as the app’s data. Download updates manually from customer Releases.
