Install SEO Bot
SEO Bot needs macOS 14 or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. After purchasing, connect GitHub in Polar and accept the repository invitation. Download SEO.Bot-1.0.1.zip from the private SEO Bot releases, unzip it, and move SEO Bot.app to Applications. The download is signed and notarized by Apple.
Open the app and add a site. Start with Sitemap Health or Internal Links. Both work without a connected account.
Connect optional data sources
Open Settings from the data-source card at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Google Search Console powers seven search-performance tools. Enable the Search Console API in Google Cloud, create an OAuth client of type Desktop app, then paste its client ID and secret in SEO Bot. The app asks for read-only access.
- Plausible powers the traffic overview, AI referrals, referring sites and broken inbound links. Add the Stats API URL and key for your Plausible account or self-hosted instance.
- DataForSEO powers rank tracking, content gaps, keyword clustering and programmatic SEO ideas. Add the API login and password from DataForSEO.
These services are optional and separate from the SEO Bot purchase. Your Plausible plan or hosting and DataForSEO usage are billed by those providers. Search Console does not add an SEO Bot charge.
Work through To Do
The overview shows the next ready action. Open To Do to see every action for the site, including checks that have never run and follow-ups after a fix.
A check can be ready, waiting for fresh data or complete. Search Console follow-ups wait long enough for Google’s data to catch up. Crawl follow-ups run sooner. Marking a report fixed adds the right follow-up automatically.
Hand a report to an agent
Set the site’s source folder in Site Settings. A report can then map page URLs to source files and prepare a task for Cursor or Codex.
The handoff contains the report path, exact edits, text to find and the command that marks the work fixed after it is verified, committed and pushed. The prompt waits for you to send it.
Install and use the CLI
Choose SEO Bot → Install Command Line Tool to link seobot into ~/.local/bin. Choose Install Agent Skill to teach supported coding agents the commands.
seobot add seobot-demo.test --source ~/Sites/seobot-demo
seobot run sitemap-health --site seobot-demo.test
seobot reports --site seobot-demo.test
seobot todo --site seobot-demo.test
seobot done --site seobot-demo.test
Run seobot help for every command and option. seobot capabilities prints the agent-ready command manifest.
Back up your data
SEO Bot stores sites, reports, tasks, rank history and credentials in ~/Library/Application Support/SEO Bot. Quit the app and stop any running seobot command before copying that folder.
credentials.json contains unencrypted API keys and tokens so the app and CLI can share them. Keep backups private. SEO Bot has no cloud sync and does not call an AI model.
Build from source
The purchase includes the full MIT-licensed Swift source. Xcode 26 with Swift 6.2 is required.
swift test
./Scripts/build-app.sh
open "dist/SEO Bot.app"
The build script creates a universal app. Without the maintainer’s Developer ID certificate it uses an ad-hoc signature, so macOS can ask for confirmation when you open your own build.
