Creem: fees and Merchant of Record guide for SaaS
Creem is a Merchant of Record for approved SaaS, AI tools, and digital products. Its public 3.9% + $0.40 rate is worth comparing when you want indirect-tax handling without a monthly platform plan.
Disclosure: Creem sponsors this site. Its fees use the same assumptions as the other providers, and its limitations are included below.
When would you choose Creem?
Consider Creem for an eligible digital product when its checkout, billing, and payout arrangements fit your business. Compare the total cost on your own order sizes and buyer mix.
Compare another provider if you require a billing workflow, business-country coverage, or service arrangement that Creem cannot confirm. A low rate does not answer those questions.
What does Creem do for the sale?
Creem acts as the seller for covered transactions and handles the payment and indirect-tax work attached to them. You remain responsible for delivering the product, supporting its users, and accounting for your business income.
Its product tooling includes subscriptions, license keys, affiliates, and revenue splits. Work out which of those your product needs, then test the complete workflow before putting a live checkout in front of customers.

What would a $10,000 month cost?
These are the same fee rules used by the payment picker calculator. The example is 200 one-time orders at $50 each, paid with US domestic cards for a US business. No sales tax is collected. It excludes subscriptions, refunds, disputes, payouts, currency conversion, and optional services.
| Provider / plan | Fee rule | Month | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creem | 3.9% + $0.40 | $470.00 | 4.7% |
Creem: Payout fees, chargebacks, and tax-inclusive fee basis are not modeled.
Change your order price, monthly orders, and international-card share in the fee calculator. These figures compare transaction costs; they do not include the cost of managing your own taxes with a direct processor.
What does the fee apply to?
Creem charges 3.9% + $0.40 on the tax-inclusive order value. If the customer pays sales tax or VAT, that tax is part of the percentage fee base. The example assumes no tax, so every provider is calculated on the same amount.
There is no monthly platform fee or additional international-card surcharge in the public rate. Payout fees and chargebacks are separate considerations. Check the payout documentation for the bank location and currency you will use.
Optional features have their own charges: the finance docs list 2% for split payments, 2% for affiliate-platform transactions, and 5% for abandoned-cart recovery. Those additions are outside the base example.
When does the money reach you?
Creem documents payment holds of 7–12 days, then payouts on the 1st and 15th after requesting withdrawal. The minimum is $50 or €50. Bank payout fees are $7 or €7, or 1%, whichever is higher; USDC payouts cost 2%.
Refunds retain the original processing fee, and chargebacks cost $25 or €25. Creem can issue discretionary refunds within 60 days. Include those terms in your cash plan, especially if you sell a low-priced product or withdraw small amounts.
What should you test in an integration?
Start with checkout and the webhook that confirms payment. Then check subscription renewals, cancellation, refunds, and any license or entitlement your product grants. Your application should keep working when webhook delivery is retried.
If you intend to use affiliates or revenue splits, test those with a realistic order too. A successful single-product purchase does not prove the rest of your payment flow is ready.
How should you compare it with Paddle?
On the public rates, Creem has a lower transaction fee in our one-time domestic-card example. That is useful information, but it is only one part of choosing. Check product approval, required billing features, support, payout timing, and how you would migrate existing customers.
The comparison linked below uses the same fee assumptions for both providers and keeps the operational questions beside the numbers.
