Find and fix weaknesses

Patch with context

Track software versions, evaluate exposure, test updates, and ship security fixes without waiting for perfect certainty.

A known vulnerable component is not automatically exploitable in your product. It is still a signal you must investigate.

Confirm the affected version, reachable feature, privilege required, and possible impact. Apply the supported fix, test the important path, and deploy promptly. If you defer, record the reason, compensating control, owner, and deadline.

An advisory affects image parsing, and the application processes user uploads through that exact function. “The package is indirect” does not make the path unreachable.

A rushed major upgrade can break production. Confirm reachability, apply the smallest supported fix, and keep a dated mitigation only when immediate patching is impossible.

Trace one advisory from installed version to the application call path and save the evidence. Test the fixed version on that path, plus the malformed input described by the advisory when a safe reproducer exists.
